Recently Politics and Law students from USP College had the privilege of visiting the Houses of Parliament and meeting with our local MP for Castlepoint, Rebecca Harris. This experience allowed us to get a valuable insight into the day-to-day life and experience of those involved in the heart of UK politics.
While inside, we were given the opportunity to have a tour of the two legislative chambers within parliament. We were able to observe parts of sittings which were being held in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords from the public gallery located above the chamber floors.

We were able to appreciate the architecture and learn about the historical importance of certain parts, such as Westminster Hall, the oldest room in the palace of Westminster where many historical events have famously taken place such as the trial of Guy Fawkes and Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

After the tour we met with our local MP and were able to speak with her, as well as ask her questions about her party and personal political positions, allowing us to learn first-hand about the challenges and process of becoming involved in UK politics and parliament.
The tour provided us with a wider knowledge of how Parliament works as well as showing us the intricate design and history surrounding the building.
