About
Darren Cogavin is an experienced, published academic who has been Lead European Parliament Senior Ambassador at Unified Seevic Palmer's College since 2022. Originally from Ireland, Darren has a BSocSC in Applied Social Sciences and two MSc in Equality Studies and Rehabilitation and Disability Studies from University College Dublin, a PGCE from the Open University and is also working towards a PhD Doctorate in Education and Social Justice with the Department of Educational Research, Lancaster University. He has taught A-Level Politics and Access to HE (Education and Teaching) at USP College since 2022, previously working in Adult Community Education for South Essex College and Thurrock Adult Community College.
Darren's main academic research areas are in the fields of Marxist Educational Theory and Educational Inequalities. In addition, Darren also specialises in educational policy, the political economy of education and critical pedagogy. He is well-known locally for his sharp intellect, outspoken views, and endless passion for teaching, learning and discussion and debate. He is well-liked for his devotion and dedication to his students, as well as his personalised pastoral support, including for our junior ambassadors in the European Parliament Ambassador School Programme.
Darren's published works include: The Lancaster University Teach-Outs: Experiments in Radical Pedagogies and Reimagining the University (2023); Lifelong Learning for Labour Power Production (2023); Labour-Power Production and the Skills Agenda in Lifelong Learning: A Critical Policy Analysis of the Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022 (2024). He has written in several political publications and in 2024 was recognised at the 2024 Pearson National Teaching Awards with the Award for FE Lecturer of the Year, Certificate of Excellence Class.
